The reason why this ceremony was performed in Guatativita's Lake, was because Muisca priests claimed that his wife drowned with his son fleeing the Chief who had acussed her of infidelity. According to history, the Chief's wife and her son lived in a magnificent palace built in the bottom of the lagoon. This belief was also disseminated among the Spaniards giving fame to that "Golden"
